SAD backs Punjab and Union govt efforts against virus
Chandigarh March 22 – SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today that his party fully backs the steps being taken by the Punjab and Union governments in humanity’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said that at this hour , we are human beings, Indians and Punjabis first and Akalis or Congressmen afterwards. Sikhism teaches us that we are all in it together. “ In Punjab, We as SAD offer our services to the CM in this fight in whatever way he deems necessary for the state.”
The Akali president also asked the party workers “to fully cooperate with the efforts of the Punjab and union governments in this regard. We will cooperate with whatever steps Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces for the country and Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for Punjab in this hour of shared challenge.”
“This is the time to put politics on the back burner and stand united in humanity’s fight against the new enemy. Every Akali worker must get into the Bhai Kanhaya mode especially during this phase,” said the SAD president.
Mr Badal appealed to Punjabis to fully and faithfully obey government instructions on lockdown and to stay at home for as long as the govt keeps the lockdown or curfew in place
Mr Badal also sought special care for the elderly in every home and a keen watch in children. “This is the payback time towards our elders who have sacrificed so much for us. “
In a statement here, Mr Badal also appealed to the president of the SGPC , Jathedar Gobind Singh Longowal to issue necessary instructions to ensure that all Sikh shrines and the SGPC officials and sevadaars lead the fight against the pandemic by fully observing all the guidelines and precautions issued or recommended by the governments at the centre and the state of Punjab.”
The former deputy CM has also issued directions to the SAD office bearers and cadre in countries like Canada, Italy , the USA, the UK, Spain, Germany and the Middle East to coordinate efforts to extend every possible help to any needy Punjabi settled abroad, regardless of any political or other considerations. He asked Akali office bearers to coordinate with Indian missions abroad for whatever assistance can be provided to the people of Punjabi origin there. ” mr Badal has also directed party office bearers and rank and file to lend every assistance to visiting NRI Punjabis and to ensure that they do not face any inconvenience or harassment in view of baseless rumours.
Mr Badal earlier appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for External Affairs Mr R Subramanyam to set up special sahayta cells and to start a helpline specially devoted to NRIs for this purpose.
