(Dr Daljit Singh Cheema says PCC chief indulging in diversionary tactic)

(Says Jakhar should demand CBI or HC inquiry not Rs 5,600 crore liquor scam)

Chandigarh, May 22 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Pradesh Congress President Sunil Jakhar not to indulge in a cover up exercise by starting talk of imposing prohibition in Punjab and asked him to first stop black marketing and bootlegging by Congressmen which had cost a revenue loss of Rs 5,600 to the State treasury.

In a statement here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that the PCC chief was trying to wash away the heinous sins of his party with superfluous talk of prohibition which the government could easily implement if it so wished as it had an absolute majority in the Vidhan Sabha. He said instead of using such diversionary tactics to gloss over the colossal failures of the Congress government, Jakhar should tell why his party men indulged in black marketing of illicit liquor during curfew but did not provide much needed ration to the people.

Dr Cheema said the PCC President represented a party whose chief minister continuously tried to open liquor vends during curfew instead of provided any financial succour to farmers, daily wagers and Khet mazdoor or even the common man and industry. “Your government even passed an order directing religious places to make announcements about home delivery of liquor besides deputing teachers to monitor distilleries”.

The SAD leader said if the PCC chief was really worried about the State or its finances he should have demanded a CBI or high court monitored inquiry into the Rs 5,600 liquor scam. “It is unfortunate that instead of doing this he is trying to befool the people once again in classic Congress fashion instead of coming clean and exposing the black sheep in the Congress party who looted the State exchequer at will during a time of pandemic”.
