Sack OSD Ankit Bansal to allow impartial probe into Rano drug smuggling case: Meet Hayer to CM
Chandigarh, 20 November 2020: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has demanded the government in the saddle to take the issue drug smuggling going unhindered in the state post the revelation made into the funding from Canada, USA and other countries in the drug trafficking case involving former Akali Sarpanch and now Congress leader Gurdeep Singh Rano.
In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party Barnala MLA and state youth wing president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer informed that Rano, involved in the drug smuggling, had been closely associated with Capt Amarinder Singh’s OSD Ankit Bansal, demanding the Chief Minister should immediately dismiss him to allow impartial probe in the case.
Meet Hayer said that the drug pedalling flourished in the state during the rule of the previous Akali Dal (Badal) government as traffickers were allowed full protection by the that be, which, he said, was continuing by the incumbent Captain Amarinder Singh government in Punjab.
The youth leader said that rumblings about former Akali Dal leader and now Congress leader Rano’s affinity with the top leaders of these parties had surfaced on social media, TV and in the newspapers, besides his links with prominent political leaders in the state.
He said that even during the lockdown period Rano was allegedly seen roaming around freely in Punjab, which called for free and fair investigation into the whole affair in which government’s top officials and political leaders’ involvement was suspected. He also demanded that the details of the phone calls between Rano and Captain’s OSD Ankit Bansal be investigated to grab leads in the case.
Lashing out at Capt. Amarinder Singh, Hayer said that he should now wake up and confess about the rampant drug trade going unhindered in Punjab, adding that the youth of Punjab was jobless, who were falling prey to drug traffickers while the government was sitting pretty in its cosy confines. He also demanded that Capt. Amarinder Singh, who also holds the state home portfolio, should clarify to the people of Punjab about the government security provided to drug smuggler Rano.
