Chandigarh December 7

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, President and Parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann, reacting sharply to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s statement on Punjab’s claim on Chandigarh publicly, said that by making such a statement Captain  had deprived the people of Punjab of their legitimate right, saying they (the people) would  never forgive him on this historic betrayal.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, Bhagwant Mann said that the Badals had exploited the people in the name of Punjab, Punjabiat and the ‘panth’, saying that on the issue Chandigarh as the capital of Punjab, transfer of Punjabi-speaking area and Punjab’s water share had been thrown as a bait only to garner vote and support to hop on to the power centre stage. He said the people had never expected of Captain, who had emerged as the biggest opportunist of his times, he said.

Mann quipped “I would like to ask Capt. Amarinder Singh, how a brave soldier  (Captain), welding a gun in his hand had set up ‘morcha’ at Kandu Khera in colder nights of the winter season for Punjab and the Punjabis, has dropped the arms? Was that ‘morcha’ which had started with a cryptic slogan ‘Kandu Khera Karu Nibera’ was a mere drama?”, he asked. Mann added that Captain Amarinder Singh had been striking a ‘Deal’ with those at the helms to make Mohali as the state capital instead of Chandigarh. He alleged that both the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance governments had exploited people of the state by cornering each other as and when they came to power.

The AAP MP said that the Punjabis could never forget the great betrayal by the Congress when the Congress-led government at the centre had backtracked on the transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab on January 26 under the Rajiv-Longowal agreement, stating that the people of Punjab would never forgive and forget Captain Amarinder Singh, who had ditched Punjab on its claim on Chandigarh.
