Proper infrastructure in the government schools will boost student enrolment-Singla
· Rs.46.30 crore released for schools as Composite Grant
Chandigarh, July 12:
Claiming that proper infrastructure in the government schools will boost the student enrolment, Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, Education Minister Punjab informed that Rs.46.30 crore has been released as Composite Grant to 18,522 government schools.
Giving details he said that for the year 2019-20 under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Rs. 25000 per school has been sanctioned for all the Primary, Middle, High and the Senior Secondary government schools in the State. This grant is meant for strengthening the school infrastructure by replacing the non-functional equipment, for incurring recurring costs such as consumables, play material, sports/laboratory equipment, teaching material etc. It may also be used for annual maintenance and repair of existing school buildings, toilets, drinking water and other facilities for the upkeep of the infrastructure.
Mr. Singla said that it has been observed that lack of washrooms in schools hampers the enrolment of girl students in the schools. Now with adequate infrastructure and well maintained buildings in place coupled with enhanced focus on improving quality of education, an upsurge in enrolment is hoped for.
