‘Quality education need of the hour’: MRSPTU VC

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in association with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) Bathinda and Inder Kumar Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Jalandhar jointly organised one day Awareness Webinar on “Outcome Based Education and Accreditation” for the affiliated colleges of MRSPTU & IKGPTU on Wednesday.
The programme was sponsored by NBA, New Delhi, where key resource persons shared their valuable inputs about latest know-how in technical education and NBA accreditation with the participants.
While addressing the webinar, the Chairman of the NBA Prof. (Dr.) K.K. Aggarwal stated that a certification by the National Board of Accreditation is essential for every educational organisation. It helps an institution to realise a number of benefits such as knowing its strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. He said that by the NBA accreditation, institutions turn towards innovation and become capable to adopt modern methods.
Addressing the webinar, MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu said quality of education is of paramount importance and the goal of education should be Enlightenment, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship. He said that academic institutions are to produce quality students by providing quality education to them.
Prof. Sidhu pointed out that the country has made rapid strides in higher technical education and the number of universities in the country increased manifold, but the quality of education is still an area of concern. He stated that to assure quality in technical education and transparency by accreditation, university aims to make it compulsory for all affiliated technical institutions to get accredited.
IKGPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sharma also spoke about various aspects of outcome Based Education and Accreditation.
Expert for the day Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa, member secretary, NBA referred to participants about the assessment methodology, guidelines, benefits, quality initiatives, Washington Accord Membership its advantages and NBA’s future plan.
Another expert speaker for the workshop Prof. CR. Muthukrishnan, Former Deputy Director, IIT Madras, Chennai guided on key components of Outcome Based Education and Accreditation, Vision, Mission, Program Educational Objectives, Graduate Attributes and Program Outcomes.
Dr. R. V. Ranganath, Professor, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore touched the topics related to Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and also guided to prepare the SAR .
IKGPTU, Dean Academic, Prof. Vikas Chawla introduced the resource persons and main speakers. While MRSPTU programme convener, Dr. Balwinder Singh Sidhu played a key role in the success of the event. The Chairmen / Directors and Principal various affiliated and constituent Colleges of MRSPTU also took part in the webinar, which proved beneficial for all the Institutes.
