Navjot Sidhu and Paramjit Nabha conferred with Baba Farid Awards-2017


Faridkot, September 23:

The five-day festival in the memory of Sufi saint Baba Sheikh Farid Ji concluded here today. Today, on the concluding day, the Nagar Kirtan started from Tilla Baba Farid and concluded at Gurdwara Godhri Sahib, in which a large number of devotees participated.

At the concluding function, the Baba Farid Society honoured former international Cricketer & Punjab Cabinet Minister Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu with Baba Farid Award for Honesty and Mr. Paranjit Singh Nabha, a scooter Mechanic with Bhagat Puran Singh Award for Humanity.

The awards were given by the Chief Guest Bibi Inderjit Kaur Chief Sewadar Bhagat Puran Singh, Pingalwara Amritsar, Mahant Kahan Singh Seva Panthi Sampardai and S. Inderjit Singh Khalsa Chairman Baba Farid Education and Religious Organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he is honoured to the core on receiving the biggest award of his life and announced to donate his entire award money and adding one lac more from his pocket to the famous Sufi singer Mr. Idu Sharif for his treatment.

The Baba Farid Society took another initiative this year by introducing cleanliness drive award and this award was given to Amritsar based Advocate Lalwani.

The awardees were given Rs 1 lakh cash, a citation and a dushala each at a religious congregation at Tilla Baba Farid here today. Both the awards are being given for the last many years to aboriginal residents of Punjab. The Society also gave a financial aid of Rs 10 thousand to the Bhagat Puran Sing Pingalwara, Amritsar on this occasion.

Mr. Sidhu has been awarded with the honesty award for working with exemplary honesty in his life and a scooter mechanic from town Nabha has been given the award for serving the humanity. He has been taking the people to hospitals injured in road accidents from last 20 years.

Amongst others prominent present on the occasion included Mr. Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon MLA, Dr. Amar Singh OSD to Local Bodies Minister, Mr. Joginder Singh Panjgraian Ex. MLA, Mhd. Saddique Ex MLA, Mr. Rajiv Parasher Deputy Commissioner & Dr. Nanak Singh SSP.
It is to be noted that during the 5 day duration of the festival which commenced on September 19, a book fair and several cultural programmes were organised. Apart from this, various societies, educational institutions, social and religious organizations organized drama festivals, sports competitions, rural sports competitions, folk dance competition, cultural programs, blood camps, medical checkup camps, book fair and exhibitions at various places in the Faridkot city. The highlight was the ‘Kafla-e-Virasat’ march which passed through the city exhibiting the glimpses of heritage.

Apart from this, a National Seminar on life, teachings and philosophy of Baba Farid Ji was organised at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal’s Sham-e-Sufiana program also lent a sufiana colour to the festivities.
