Employee Wing Punjab to hold three dharnas to force Cong government to deliver on its promises

Chandigarh/August 19: The Employee Wing Punjab, a representative body of Government employees and pensioners of the state, today announced to hold a dharnas in different parts of the State to force the Congress government to accept employees’ demands including release of their DA and regularization of contractual employees.

In a statement here, State president of the employees’ body Karamjit Singh Bhagrana said the Captain Amarinder Singh led Congress government was deliberately delaying meeting the demands of employees and pensioners despite the assurances of fulfilling them immediately after coming into power. “The Captain government has reneged on all promises it made to employees and pensioners of the state” rued Bhagrana.

Giving details of the protest strategy being adopted by the employees’ body, S. Bhagrana said In the first Phase, three dharnas will be held at Fazilka, Ludhiana and Phagwara on September 4, 11 and 14 respectively to remind this deaf government that nothing was done by it to fulfill our demands like release of DA installments, implementation of 6th pay commission report, regularization of 30,000 contractual employees and removal of professional tax. “We will escalate our agitation in days to come if our genuine demands are not met immediately,” he added.

Apprising media persons about the unfulfilled demands of the state employees, S. Bhagrana said they include merger of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) employees into Rural Development Department, release of Punjab Tourism Corporation Employees’ dues along with interest, increased Pay band for employees of Group 4 to 7 & Group 17 of the Power Corporation, ex-gratia of Rs. 10 Lakh for govt. employees in case of death on duty, implementation of the old pension scheme for employees recruited after 2004, decease of probation period to one year besides full scale and allowances for regular employees of various departments.

Others present on the occasion were the Patron of Employees Wing, Inderjeet Sharma, office secretary Surjit Singh Saini, Secretary-General Harmesh Dhiman and Paramjit Singh.
