DSGMC ASKS INDIAN GOVT; APOLOGIZE FOR ATTACK OF SRI AKAL TAKHT SAHIB AND SRI DARBAR SAHIB IN 1984 UNDER OPERATION BLUE STAR
New Delhi, June 3 : The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today asked the Indian government to tender unqualified apology to the Sikhs for attack carried out on Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Darbar Sahib in 1984 under Operation Blue Star by the then Indian Government led by Indira Gandhi.
In a statement released here today, Mr. Sirsa said that it is most unfortunate to see that even 35 years after the attack on most sacred place of humanity by the Indian government, successive governments at the Centre failed to apologize to the Sikh community for causing them wounds which have never healed till date. He said that though people are talking of apologies for Kamagattamaru and Jallianwala Bagh tragedies but Sikhs feel and all peace loving people having human heart feel that Indian government owe an apology for hurting feelings of all human beings and that too under a well planned conspiracy.
Mr. Sirsa said that this Operation Blue Star was like attacks of Ahmad Shah Abdali and Babur who used their might to crush the people and same was done by Indira Gandhi. He said that She used the day of martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Dev ji to execute Operation Blue Star which annihilated the faith of Sikhs in her government and the Congress party forever. He said that one could assume what any community will feel and what its reaction would be if an attack is carried out on Church on Christmas day, on a Mandir on Janamashtmi and on a Mosque on Eid.
The DSGMC President said that recent reports emerging from UK have suggested that Indira Gandhi was planning an attack much before it happened and had sought help of then UK Premier Marget Thatcher who deputed a member of UK’s Special Air Services to India to help in planning controversial operation. He said that these reports have made it clear that motive of the Indira Gandhi was to attack the most sacred place of humanity only to target the minorities specially the Sikhs as she wanted to win over confidence of majority in the country to get political mileage.
Mr. Sirsa said that people worldwide wanted to know the reality of the Operation Bluestar. He said that what happened behind the curtains should be known to people. He said that how the then government led by Indira Gandhi evolved circumstances leading to attack and how she conspired, all information related with this operation should be made public.
The DSGMC President also demanded that Government should appoint a sitting Judge of Supreme Court to enquire how the circumstances were created by the then Indira Gandhi government against the Sikhs to execute Operation Blue Star
He said that not only operation Blue Star was executed against the Sikhs but they were also targeted for avenging this attack in 1984 and thousands of Sikhs were killed in Delhi and other cities of the country. He said that during all these 33 years no one was punished by the successive Congress governments at the Centre and it was only after NDA government assumed power that guilty like Sajjan Kumar were sent behind bars. He said similar is case now when people are expecting an apology from Indian government on the eve of 35th anniversary of the Operation Blue Star.
