CUPB organised Talk & Yoga Session on “Stress Management & Well-being”

In continuation of its academic activities, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda organized a Talk & Yoga Session on ‘Stress Management & Well Being” under the aegis of FIT India Movement of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Sunday. CUPB NSS Cell conducted this programme under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari which was attended by students, teaching fraternity, non-teaching staff, and their family members through Google Meet. The keynote speaker of this programme was Dr Swami Dhirendracharya.  

 

The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, NSS, Programme Officer, where he put a light on the programme theme and introduced the keynote speaker. He mentioned that Swami Dhirendracharya has done his Ph.D. in the discipline of yoga & he has been working as an educator and social worker in the field of yoga & stress management from the last 23 years.

 

In his keynote address, Swami Dhirendraacharya defined stress as a feeling of emotional or physical tension that can cause a threat to a person’s well-being. He shared the symptoms of stress at cognitive, emotional, behavioural & physical level and pointed out that excess of stress can also cause health problems such as depression, anxiety, sleeping disorders, heart disease, digestive problems, memory problems, body ache, or others diseases. He advocated for the adoption of stress management techniques such as identifying the cause of stress, discussion of concerns with others, imbibing the feeling forgiveness, living a disciplined life routine, and sparing some time for physical exercise and yoga to stay calm & reduce stress. He stated that Yoga will not only help us to reducing our stress but it will also enhance our physical and mental fitness level. He demonstrated different yogic postures related to Mula Bandha Kriya, Agnisar Kriya, Kapalbhati Kriya, Paschimottanasana, Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Pawanmuktasana, Markatasana, Bhujangasana, Sarvangasana,  Singha Aasana, Hasya Aasana, Shayana Aasana, and others. He urged everyone to adopt yoga and healthy eating habit in daily life to enhance our immunity and to stay safe from COVID-19 by following preventive guidelines.

 

Prof. V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, complimented CUPB NSS Cell for their efforts to reach out to students through the innovative use of technology. He suggested that efforts should be made to educate the community about the innovative use of ICT.

 

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tiwari applauded CUPB NSS Cell led by Prof. Monisha Dhiman and her team for their remarkable work during COVID-19 times. He supported Prof. Garg’s view by stating that National Education Policy-2020 encourages Higher Education Institutions to develop linkage with the community. He added, we should organise many such innovative programmes in future  to achieve the goal of providing holistic education

 

Shri K.P.S. Mundra, Registrar communicated his gratitude towards the Vice-Chancellor for his guidance on selecting the relevant topic for this programme. Towards the end, Dr. Milan K Sharma, Programme Officer, thanked participants for making this programme a success.
