Congress MP’s attempt to table private member bill against black farm laws, nothing more than a drama: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, February 10, 2021

Commenting on the decision of the Congress MPs to move the private members bill in the Lok Sabha to repeal farm laws, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that it was another new drama of the Congress to provoke the farmers. In a statement issued from the party headquarters, AAP state president and MP Bhagwant Mann said that earlier when Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government was discussing to bring these laws, the Congress leaders being the members of the High Power Committee, had agreed to these black laws. He said that now when the farmers of the country had protested against these black laws, the Congress leaders were trying to be benevolent to the farmers and pretending to be their saviours.

He said that it was the same policies of the Congress government which the Modi government at the centre wanted to impose on the farmers and enslave them to the corporate houses. Mann said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s Moti Bagh gang was now trying to stage a new drama to divert the attention of the people from the farmers’ struggle and to get limelight on themselves. “It has been a record of the Congress that it tries to influence the farmers’ struggle by giving a new program equal to the agitation. It is now part of the same chain that they are talking about moving private members bill in the Parliament,” he added.

Mann said that Captain Amarinder Singh had earlier promised to meet the Prime Minister with an all party delegation regarding the black laws, but to date he had not asked the Prime Minister for time to meet and revoked his promise. He further said that the Captain government had passed a resolution opposing the central farm laws in the Punjab Assembly and pretended to make a new law, but did not send it to the Central government till now. “Captain passed a bill in the Punjab Assembly against the central farm laws but it turned out to be only an amendment bill which had no implications on the farm laws. Instead, he organised parallel blitz rallies, went and met the Home Minister, but didn’t talk about the farm laws,” said Mann.

He said that even when a new agitation program is given by the farmers, the Congressmen in a bid to distract the farmers’ struggle, go and sit at the Singhu border. Mann said that it was the same, that earlier his MPs sat on a dharna in Delhi to get the attention of the people towards them instead of the farmers’ agitation and now were preparing to do this new drama. He said that the people were now well aware of their misleading tactics and would not fall for their ploys.

Mann said that Captain Amarinder Singh was busy entertaining his foreign friends in his posh farmhouse, and did not have time to listen to the people, but instead was using new tactics to crush the movement of the farmers, who were fighting for their rights. “Captain Saheb, please come out of your royal farmhouse and see that the people of Punjab won’t be fooled by your tactics this time. The whole of Punjab now knows that whatever you do in the name of the farm laws is nothing, but lies and gimmicks. Your claim of being the saviour of farmers has been exposed,” he added. He also appealed to the people that while they had to fight for their rights with the dictatorial Modi government at the centre; they should also beware of the anti-people moves of the Congress.
