Cong MLA Pritam Kotbhai owes about Rs 12 lakh electricity dues to (PSPCL)
Muktsar, Dec 27: Congress MLA from Bhucho Pritam Singh Kotbhai, a resident of Kotbhai village in the Gidderbaha subdivision here, owes about Rs 12 lakh electricity dues to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). He has not paid the bill since April 2018, said PSPCL officials.
Last year, the PSPCL had disconnected his electricity connection for two days after which he had paid Rs 6 lakh.
A PSPCL official said they had repeatedly requested the MLA and his staff to pay the outstanding amount. “We will wait for two or three more days then temporarily snap the power supply,” he said.
Sources said the MLA had got 20-kw non-residential power connection in his name. “The MLA has now even submitted an application to convert the connection into a residential one,” they said.
In the past, the PSPCL discontinued the power supply to a number of bigwigs in the district. For instance, the supply through three power connections to former CM Harcharan Singh Brar’s family was temporarily snapped in February 2017 for non-payment of bills to the tune of Rs 25 lakh. Later, the family had paid the bills and the supply was restored.
Similarly, senior SAD leader Dyal Singh Kolianwali’s family had not paid electricity bills of nearly Rs 23 lakh and their power supply too was temporarily stopped in February 2017.
Massa Singh, Superintending Engineer, PSPCL, Muktsar, said, “We have to recover Rs 183 crore from government departments alone in the Muktsar circle. The main defaulters are the Water Supply and Sanitation, and Irrigation departments, Water Supply and Sewerage Board and district jail. We have served notices on the defaulters and taking action as well.”
Meanwhile, Kotbhai could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
