Captain must abstain from suppressing voice of people by sacking govt. employees supporting farmers’ agitation: Meet Hayer
Chandigarh, January 21, 2021: Reacting to the case pertaining to dismissal of Punjab government employees who were involved in the farmers’ movement, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has targeted Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. In a statement issued from the party headquarters, AAP’s state Youth Wing president and MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that Captain’s administration had sacked Amritpal Singh, district general secretary of MGNREGA Employees’ Union at Fazilka district, a few days ago for his involvement in the ongoing agitation in Delhi. He said that Amritpal Singh’s fault was that he had joined the dharna to support his farmer brothers and sisters in the ongoing farmers’ agitation on the Delhi borders due to him belonging to a farmer family.
Hayer said that the case of dismissal came to light when members of several employees’ organisations sat on a dharna outside the DC office to protest against the sacking. “This shows how much Captain has given his officers a leeway to suppress the voice of the supporters of the farmers’ movement. After all, at whose behest are these officials sacking the employees who joined the movement?,” questioned Hayer. He warned Captain Amarinder Singh-led government that if the administration does not reinstate the dismissed employee soon, then the Aam Aadmi Party will gherao Captain’s residence.
The AAP leader further said that by sacking the government employees, the Captain government was preventing them from joining the farmers’ movement. He said that Captain’s administration was scaring the government employees by adopting all kinds of government tactics so that they do not join the movement. “Thousands of employees want to go to the Delhi dharna sites to support and encourage their farmer brothers and sisters who are struggling on the streets of Delhi, risking their life in this harsh weather; but fearing dismissal, they are unable to go to Delhi,” he added. Hayer said that the anti-agitation activities being carried out continuously by the Captain government clearly indicates that Captain was trying his best to weaken the movement and was using power to suppress the voice of the farmers of Punjab.
Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, Hayer further said that the dismissal was an evidence that Captain along with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah wants to crush the farmers’ movement. “Captain is such a family man that he is supporting the Modi government, trying to crush this historic farmers’ movement; just to save his son from the ED. But Captain must remember that this movement will be written in golden letters in the history book, and his name will be written in black letters on the pages of history for supporting those suppressing this movement,” he added.
