Capt Amarinder Singh to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi
Chandigarh, January 20: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is scheduled to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Monday evening. He left for Delhi today.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of an impending Cabinet reshuffle and war of words between Capt Amarinder and Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa. The former PPCC chief has been questioning the government over unfulfilled poll promises.
The Congress president is also expected to meet other Punjab leaders, including Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari and PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar. Bajwa already met Sonia a few days ago, it is learnt.
Sources said certain MLAs had also been airing their grievances against the bureaucracy “eating into their political space”. The issues of action against the Akalis over sacrilege incidents, faulty power purchase agreements (PPAs) with private thermal plants and illegal sand mining have been haunting the state Congress.
A few days ago, Jakhar had taken on Advocate General for allegedly not watching the interests of the state in legal matters. He had also called for a strong action in the case of PPAs to give relief to the consumers.
A government functionary said the issue of the Punjab Government adopting a tough stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act would also be discussed at the meeting between Capt Amarinder and Sonia.
Besides some other engagements, the Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways.
