The so called loan waiver offered in the budget today is nothing but a farce, eyewash and a cruel joke equivalent to rubbing salt on the wounds of farmers :- Khaira

JUNE-20,The Capt. Amarinder Singh government today played a cruel joke with the farmers of Punjab by announcing a meager loan waiver of Rs. 1500 crores, whereas the total debt on the farmers of Punjab is a colossal Rs. 1 lac crore. It’s a matter of record, that Capt. Amarinder Singh had publically promised to waive off the total debt of farmers that includes the loan advanced by cooperative banks, nationalized banks and the commission agents. The promise of complete debt waiver was also a part of the election manifesto of Congress party. I am of the firm opinion, that this meager loan waiver will in no way ameliorate the lot of farmers and the spade of suicides are likely to continue. This is nothing but a clever ploy to hoodwink and divert the attention of people of Punjab, from the burning issue of suicides and debt facing the farmers. AAP will continue its tirade to pressurize Capt. Amarinder Singh to honor his commitment of complete and full waiver of farmers debt.
Having opposed the inapt loan waiver, I welcome the proposal of Capt. Amarinder Singh urging farmers with reasonable holdings to forego power subsidy, so that small and marginal farmers can benefit from this scheme. Therefore, I offer to forego the power subsidy of all my tubewell connections with immediate effect and appeal to all the Ministers and MLA’s to shun the power subsidy without any further delay. Actually I had already written to the then Chief Minister Mr. Badal in this context offering to give up power subsidy. (copy of letter attached.)
Last but not the least in the same breath, I condemn the Chief Minister for making his speech in English language instead of our mother tongue Punjabi yesterday, while winding up on the Governor’s address debate. If the Chief Minister of Punjab chooses to ignore Punjabi language and prefers English over it, what message is he trying to send to the entire government mechanism of Punjab?
