A Joint General Body meeting of Teaching & Non-Teaching Employees of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University
Kapurthala/Jalandhar/Chandigarh : A Joint General Body meeting of Teaching & Non-teaching employees of the I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University(IKGPTU) was called on 03-12-2020 to apprise its employees about withdrawal of finances from IKGPTU for various government projects. The Punjab Government has asked about Rs. 105 Crores from IKGPTU for establishment of 19 ITI’s in Punjab State (whereas ITI’s and Government Polytechnics fall under the purview of Punjab Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training), Punjab Govt. under its Industries Department has asked IKGPTU to set aside Rs. 100 Crore to establish a Start Up Fund, Rs 100 crores for establishment CIIIT through TATA Technologies Limited. A part of hit the Punjab Govt. has asked to pay 50% expenditure incurred on various Govt. Job Fairs under Ghar Ghar Rojgar Yojna held in different areas of Punjab. The Technical Education Minister Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi is establishing Skill-cum-Vocational University in his constituency at Shri Chamkaur Sahib. The IKGPTU has been asked to pay Rs. 15 Crores for purchase of the 42 acres land in Shri Chamkaur Sahib. A part of that for the construction of buildings in phase-I, the IKGPTU has been asked to pay Rs. 114 Crores. Since Sh. Channi is also holding a charge of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Ministry, he had pressed upon IKGPTU to pay Rs. 88 lakhs for conducting a state level programme on 550th year Birth Celebration of Sh. Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Similarly in an another letter written to IKGPTU by him he has asked PTU to set aside a land of about 25 acre to establish a Museum on the Lift and History of Baba Sahib Dr. Bheem Rao Ambedkar. It seems very strange that Punjab Govt. has been failed to provide financial resources to various prominent Universities of Punjab as well as Govt. Technical Education Institutions in Punjab but still the Govt. is adamant to open new Institutions whereas it is struggling to provide to salaries to above mentioned institutions. Due to this reason Punjab Govt. has initiated process of transfer of teachers and employees BHSBCE&T, Lehragaga. The Govt. is putting pressure on IKGPTU to accommodate these employees in IKGPTU. The IKGPTU employees associations has strongly opposed this move of Punjab Govt. because the educational qualifications, scale and post of Lehragaga institute does not match with that of IKGPTU. The employees of IKGPTU have registered a strong protest against this move with the IKGPTU administration. Both the presidents of IKGPTU teaching as well as Non-Teaching employees associations have conveyed to all the employee that IKGPTU employee will opposed any move of Govt. to merge those colleges with IKGPTU which Govt. have failed to provide financial resources as well as salaries to their employees. The also vowed that in case the Govt. still put pressure on IKGPTU then its employee will intensify the hesitation.
