1984 SIKH GENOCIDE CASE: MUKHTIAR SINGH APPEARS BEFORE SIT TO RECORD HIS STATEMENT AGAINST KAMALNATH
New Delhi, September 23 : Mr. Mukhtiar Singh one of the prime witness in a case of 1984 Sikh Genocide against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Kamalnath today appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the genocide cases and expressed his desire to record statement against Mr. Kamalnath in a case related with murder of two Sikhs at Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib on November 1st, 1984.
Accompanied by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Mukhtiar Singh reached the SIT office and met the SIT Chief and other members of the SIT. He disclosed that he was present on the occasion when the two Sikhs were murdered at Rakabganj Sahib at the instigation of Kamalnath.
It is worth mentioning here that on the representation of Mr. Sirsa and matter pursued by the Shiromani Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Minister Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the SIT was authorized to probe even those cases where the court had discharged the accused or the challan has been presented in the case. This is a case of this category only which has been now been reopened on demand of Mr. Sirsa who met the SIT and requested to open case No. 601/84 in light of new notification of the Home Ministry.
Talking to reporters later, Mr. Sirsa disclosed that the SIT team patiently heard what Mukhtiar Singh illustrated to them. He said that issue of recording statement of another prime withness Mr. Sanjay Suri then a journalist was also discussed and the SIT has assured us that it will try to record statement through video conferencing. He said that apart from it the SIT has demanded some documents related with the decision of the court in the case and the DSGMC will provide the same within a week’s time.
The DSGMC President also demanded security for Mukhtiar Singh citing threats to his and life of his family members. He disclosed that when he had deposed before the Nanavati Commission he was threatened by the goons to stay away from recording his statement but he was undeterred with these threats and went ahead for recording his statement. He said that now when this is a high profile case involving a Congress Chief Minister, he should be provided security without any further delay.
Mr. Sirsa also said that Mr. Kamalnath should now get ready to face jail for his deeds done during 1984 Sikh genocide. He said that earlier Sajjan Kumar and others were sent behind bars and now it was his turn to face music.
