1,024 ‘Van Mittars’ nurturing 2.82 lakh plants in Sangrur district: Deputy Commissioner

As many as 1,024 ‘Van Mittars’ have been nurturing 2.82 lakh saplings planted in Sangrur district to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nank Dev ji. While divulging details, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ramvir said that despite outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, the ‘Van Mittars’ have been dedicatedly taking care of plants in 512 gram panchayats of the district by watering and weeding them. DC said that minimum of 550 saplings were planted in every village to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji and two ‘Van Mittars’ per gram panchayat have been appointed under MGNREGA.
DC Ramvir said that the saplings require proper care during initial years of plantation and to ensure life of maximum plants, the ‘Van Mittars’ were providing protection and replacing damaged plants. He said that the plants have also been provided free of cost to the panchayats.
Meanwhile, ADC (development) Rajinder Singh Batra said that besides providing healthy atmosphere to the villagers, the appointment of ‘Van Mittars’ will also help in providing employment to them. He added that as many as 57,344 workdays have been generated for the ‘Van Mittars’ and amount of 1,50,81,472 has been given to them in Sangrur district.
