10 injured after dozen vehicles involved in pile-up on Ludhiana-Malerkotla highway
Mandi Ahmedgarh, January 1: Ten people were injured after a dozen vehicles were involved in a pile-up due to poor visibility near Jagera Bridge on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla highway near here on Wednesday.
Though the exact sequence of events leading to the pile-up was yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigations revealed that a truck collided with an electric pole installed on the divider of the highway. It remained stranded in the middle of the road which resulted in a pile-up of vehicles that included trucks, tempos and cars.
Sandy, a driver of a damaged car said his vehicle was hit twice, first due to the collision with the stranded truck and the second time when he had gone to put of caution reflectors at a distance to prevent further collision of vehicles.
“However, the vehicles kept on coming and colliding with each other,” said Sandy. His friend was injured seriously in the accident.
Though the spot falls in Payal subdivision of Khanna police district, Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjit Singh Panthey supervised the rescue operation. Cops led by SHO Malaudh Navdeep Singh and additional SHO Ahmedgarh Sadar Gorakh Nath started by clearing the obstruction to prevent further collision of vehicles.
Panthey said he had reached the spot after receiving information of the pile-up from one of his friends. “Though the spot fell under the jurisdiction of Payal subdivision we reached the spot as it was nearer to our location,” said Panthey, adding enough arrangements were made to get victims first aid and leave them at their place of choice.
